PROMAR Circular Economy Webinar - BVI Circular Economy Opportunities
As a follow up to the National Policy and EPR Capacity Building workshops in May, Green VI and adelphi hosted another capacity building workshop on Circular Economy Business models and opportunities for the BVI. This was hosted online on the 30th of October from 10am till 1pm.
Participants from the May workshops were invited to attend, as well as it being circulated by the Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute. This encouraged public service workers to engage in the topic of Circular Economy and learn about initiatives already happening in the BVI. While 87 people registered interested, the webinar had 39 attendees in the end. This allowed for excellent group discussion on key circular economy topics and business models.
The webinar was broken into three parts - first external facilitator Amar Munnolimath from adelphi presented on the Circular Economy Framework and gave examples of Circular economy business models from around the world. Then, Charlotte McDevitt, executive director of Green VI, presented on the initiatives already in place in the BVI and the vision for future circular economy opportunities. Lastly, participants were split into groups to each discuss the feasibility of implementing one of these envisioned circular economy opportunities.
Feedback was positive and attendees expressed their desire for such circular economy initiatives to go ahead. Through the PROMAR project, steps can be taken to bring the BVI closer to a greener, cleaner and more sustainable economy.
