Brandywine Bay Clean-up- BVI
The final beach cleanup for 2025 was held at Brandywine Bay on Tortola on the 11th of December. This is a manmade beach mostly visited by locals. The area was very heavily littered, with a lot of beer bottles and leftover food waste from people enjoying parties on weekends. 29 enthusiastic students from local schools, parents, and community members turned up to take part in the clean up, and in two hours were able to remove 204.5lb of litter from the beach and shrubs lining the beach. The waste was separated into recyclable materials and general waste, and over half of the total was recyclable material.
The majority of this was glass beer bottles, but a significant amount of plastic was also collected (10/28 bags collected). Students also completed the feedback form after the event, showcasing what they learned about marine plastic pollution and the importance of taking care of our beaches.
