To celebrate World Environment Day on 1 June 2026, the Recovery and Insolvency Specialists Association (RISA) joined Green VI to clean up Brewers Bay Beach on Tortola. A pre-breakfast clean up saw 20 dedicated association members show up to do their bit for their favorite Tortola beach, with the team rewarded afterwards with a plastic free breakfast delivery. In total, 32 kg of recyclables (glass, aluminum and plastics) and 30 kg of mixed waste were removed from the beach and surrounding vegetation.
 

Following the clean up, RISA volunteers joined an engaging discussion about solutions to coastal pollution and were delighted to learn about the recycling systems and circular economy solutions already in place across the British Virgin Islands. The conversation offered a valuable opportunity for participants to understand the practical steps being taken locally to combat marine plastic pollution, from waste sorting and recycling infrastructure to broader circular economy initiatives.

The Association has been invited to tour the PROMAR Fab Lab once it is up and running, to see first hand how the project is working to prevent marine plastic pollution and repurpose this material within the BVI.

This partnership between RISA and Green VI highlights the growing role of local businesses and professional associations in supporting environmental stewardship across the British Virgin Islands. By combining a hands on beach clean up with meaningful education around recycling and circular economy solutions, the event reflects the wider goals of the PROMAR Project: preventing marine litter, reducing plastic pollution, and building a more sustainable future for the Caribbean's coastlines. Events like this demonstrate how community engagement and corporate partnership can work hand in hand to protect the natural beauty and marine ecosystems that make the BVI so special.
