PROMAR Makes the Headlines in Suriname for WP2
On April 7th, PROMAR launched an integrated waste management system at the Central Market and the Vreedzaam Market in Paramaribo, which made the news at the leading Surinamese newspaper De Ware Tijd Online.
The implementation sites were carefully selected based on field research carried out by the team, which identified significant volumes of waste being discarded behind the markets. The launch ceremony brought together representatives from Stichting Recycling Suriname (Suresur) and other key stakeholders from the sector.
The De Ware Tijd Online also highlighted that the integrated waste management system is part of PROMAR's broader efforts to reduce marine litter in the Caribbean region by tackling plastic pollution at the source, improving land-based waste management, and promoting a circular economy. The good work of Green Heritage Fund Suriname, PROMAR's partner in Suriname, also received attention in the article for their achievements.
