Suriname's PROMAR Launch
Suriname Launches PROMAR Project with Innovative Solutions to Tackle Marine Litter
🌊 Important Milestone for the PROMAR Project in Suriname! 🌍
On Tuesday, November 5, the PROMAR (Prevention of Marine Litter in the Caribbean Sea) project marked a significant milestone in Suriname with the successful launch of its national Project Launch Workshop. Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Spatial Order and Environment, the event brought together 40 participants from diverse sectors committed to addressing plastic waste and promoting sustainable waste management practices.
The workshop was a dynamic space for innovation and collaboration, resulting in the development of five creative prototypes aimed at tackling plastic pollution and strengthening the country’s waste management systems. These solutions are tailored to Suriname’s unique environmental context and hold great promise for making a tangible impact on the ground.
In addition to fostering innovation, the workshop also introduced a pilot version of a Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices (KAP) survey. This vital tool will help assess public awareness, behaviors, and perceptions related to littering and marine pollution. Over the coming months, the KAP survey will be rolled out across Suriname through various media channels, gathering crucial data to inform future policy and action.
This event marks just the beginning of PROMAR’s work in Suriname. By integrating cross-sector collaboration, local innovation, and community engagement, the project continues to push forward its vision of a cleaner, healthier Caribbean.
