Shoreline Sampling- Foreshore, Trinidad & Tobago
🌊 Collaborative science in action at The Foreshore, Port of Spain! 🌊
Under the Prevention of Marine Litter in the Caribbean Sea (PROMAR) Project, our local partner in Trinidad & Tobago, the Institute of Marine Affairs (IMA), has been leading a series of shoreline sampling events.
This initiative brings together:
👩🏽🔬 IMA research staff
🎓 Interns from The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine
👩🏾🎓 Students from St. Francois Girls’ Secondary School
🌍 A volunteer from the Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI)
Together, they are:
📊 Collecting litter data across three 10m shoreline plots
♻️ Transporting and sorting marine litter into 13 categories (plastics, paper, metals, fishing-related debris, and more)
This important work is part of PROMAR’s Work Package I: Analysing Material Flows and Establishing Monitoring Mechanisms, which supports a better understanding of the sources and impacts of marine litter in Trinidad & Tobago.
👏 A true example of partnership, science, and youth engagement driving solutions for a healthier ocean! 💙
