Beach Clean Up at Kingston Seawalls- Guyana
Community Unites to Tackle Marine Litter at Kingston Seawalls
On June 28, 2025, the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) in Guyana, through the University of Guyana - PROMAR project, hosted a successful beach clean-up activity at the Kingston Seawalls.
A total of 24 dedicated volunteers came together for this environmental initiative, working tirelessly to remove 148.58 lbs of trash from the coastline. Plastic waste made up the largest portion of the collected litter, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable solutions to reduce plastic pollution.
These clean-up efforts not only help to preserve marine ecosystems but also raise awareness about the growing threat of marine litter. By engaging the community, initiatives like this inspire behavioral change and promote responsible waste management practices.
Why It Matters
Plastic pollution poses a significant threat to marine life, coastal livelihoods, and human health. Projects like PROMAR play a critical role in promoting ocean health and creating a cleaner, more sustainable future for all.
