The Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices (KAP) Survey- Suriname
🔎 Gaining Local Insights to Tackle Marine Litter in Suriname 🔎
A critical step in the global fight against marine plastic pollution begins with understanding how local communities interact with the issue. In Suriname, this understanding is being strengthened through the dedicated work of our partner, Green Heritage Fund Suriname, as they carry out Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices (KAP) surveys across coastal communities.
So far, over 269 community members across all seven coastal districts have participated in the surveys, offering valuable insights into how people perceive, feel about, and manage plastic waste in their daily lives. This data is more than just numbers—it forms the foundation for designing realistic, community-based solutions to stop plastic waste from entering rivers, estuaries, and eventually, the ocean.
This effort is part of the broader PROMAR (Prevention of Marine Litter in the Caribbean Sea) initiative, which focuses on tackling marine litter at the source. The findings from these KAP surveys will help shape interventions and awareness campaigns that resonate with local realities and promote long-term behavioral change.
🌿 By listening to local voices, we are paving the way for more sustainable, impactful solutions. Stay tuned as we analyze the results and begin rolling out targeted strategies to keep Suriname’s waterways clean and thriving.
