The PROMAR Team in Guyana participated in the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) World Environment Day 2026 Awareness Walk, held on 31 May 2026 in Georgetown, Guyana, under the theme "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future." The event brought together government agencies, non-governmental organizations, youth groups, schools, volunteers, and members of the public to celebrate World Environment Day and promote environmental awareness and climate action across Guyana.

The PROMAR Team engaged participants through an interactive "Guess the Lifespan of Waste" game, challenging them to estimate how long common waste items remain in the environment before decomposing. The activity generated considerable interest, with many participants expressing surprise at the longevity of items such as plastics, aluminum cans, and glass. These exchanges created a natural opening to highlight the impacts of improperly managed waste on Guyana's rivers, coastlines, and marine ecosystems, whilst encouraging practical actions such as reducing single-use plastics, disposing of waste responsibly, and making more sustainable everyday choices.

More than 107 persons participated directly in the awareness activities, leaving with a greater understanding of the causes and impacts of marine litter and plastic pollution, as well as practical knowledge of how to reduce plastic waste and adopt more sustainable habits. The activity also strengthened partnerships between government agencies, youth organizations, and environmental stakeholders, with youth volunteers playing an active role in engaging participants and promoting a culture of environmental stewardship. The event further raised the public visibility of the PROMAR Project and its ongoing efforts to prevent marine litter in Guyana.
