PROMAR Study Tour in Medellín, Colombia
From 20 to 23 April 2026, 21 participants representing the five PROMAR Phase II countries – British Virgin Islands, Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, and St. Kitts and Nevis – traveled to Medellín, Colombia, for the PROMAR Study Tour organized by adelphi and SOCYA.
The program opened with PROMAR's Annual Meeting, where all Phase II partners shared progress updates and key milestones achieved across the project's four Work Packages. This was followed by an exchange with an expert from Colombia's Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, which offered participants a closer look at how Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) has been implemented in Colombia.
Over the following days, the delegation visited a range of companies and organizations active across different material streams in Colombia's recycling and waste management sector. Participants engaged in:
Technical exchanges with organizations implementing EPR schemes, including SOCYA
Site visits to recycling and processing facilities, including Plastisol, Plasticos Ambientales, Coprofercol, Metalrec, Empacor, and Indural
A visit to Fundación Botellas de Amor, an initiative that transforms plastic bottles and flexible packaging into furniture and housing
A tour of Aguas Nacionales, a modern wastewater treatment plant illustrating how circular approaches can be applied to water management
The Study Tour also created space for peer exchange among the partner countries, on shared challenges, approaches that work, and ideas that could be adapted elsewhere. Participants left Medellín with a stronger connections across the PROMAR project.
